Professor David Wilkinson
Professor David Wilkinson obtained postgraduate degrees in experimental psychology and neurological science from the University of Kent and University College London respectively, before completing post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Oxford and Harvard Medical School.
His early work focused on the therapeutic gains elicited by non-invasive brain stimulation in brain injury, episodic migraine and Parkinson’s disease.
In 2023, his growing awareness of the unmet health and social needs experienced by people living with Parkinson’s disease prompted him to found the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy in Kent. The Centre provides a person-centered, multi-disciplinary environment that offers NICE-recommended non-drug therapies alongside a vibrant social community, cutting edge research and professional education.
In 2025 the Centre opened an allied service, called Neurowell, to support people suffering from other neurological conditions including acquired and traumatic brain injury. The Centre has since been recognized via a global award from the Lord Loomba CBE for its outstanding contribution to the community.
Alongside his directorship of the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy, Professor Wilkinson is also Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health and Strategic Partnerships) at the University of Kent, and an honorary member of the Translational Research Centre for TBI and Stress Disorders at Harvard Medical School.
