Kerry McCarthy MP Visits Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit

Kerry McCarthy MP for Bristol East visited the Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (BIRU), Active Neuro, on 24 July 2026, where she was welcomed by Dr Mohamed Sakel, Consultant Physician in Neuro-rehabilitation, Medical Director, and Chair of the Kent Brain Injury Forum (KBIF).

During the visit, they discussed opportunities to improve patient care and bring innovation into clinical practice.

Ms McCarthy also expressed an interest in supporting Dr Sakel’s work and attending a brain injury discussion event in Westminster on 8 September 2026.

KBIF looks forward to continuing these conversations and strengthening collaboration between healthcare professionals, policymakers and other stakeholders to improve outcomes for people living with brain injury.

The visit was also supported by Charlotte Webb, brain injury solicitor and Trustee of Headway Bath & District, whose dedication to improving services for people affected by traumatic brain injury continues to support this important work.
